Obverse Design

Legend curving above says
"AD . VERNON AD . OGLE .
GE . WENTWORTH" with faint fleur-di-li divider after each name.
There is a line enclosing the legend.
Three full length figures are standing with Admiral Vernon
in the center. The other figures represent General Wentworth and Sir Chaloner Ogle.
Admiral Vernon is turned to the left but facing forward.
The other two figures are facing Admiral Vernon.
Fame is depicted flying above with three wreaths and blowing a trumpet.
There is a ship on the right. Betts reported a lion rampart on the left, but
if present is too faint to show on the example above.
The medal has a line just inside the rim and a plain raised edge.

Reverse Design
|

There is a line enclosing the legend.
In exergue it says "APRILL 1741" (with two L's in April). There is a line
below the date as well as the line above the date.
The medal shows a harbor with three ships in it, bombarding a town. There are four
more ships outside the harbor. A group of soldiers and two cannon are on a point of
land and are marching towards the town. There are waves in the water both in the
harbor and outside the harbor.
The medal has a line just inside the rim and a plain raised edge.

Distinctions
|
This medal is fairly unique for an Admiral Vernon medal. This is the only
variety with a full figure of Fame portrayed flying above. The variety most
similar to this one has the face only of Fame blowing a trumpet over the
three figures.
